May 1-5

This is your last week in your schools. I have emailed all of your teachers to email me a list of supplies from Dick Blick. Please remind them. We will meet face-to-face Tuesday May 9th and again for our final exam. There are Yeh books in B-12. Please try to get the reading done and especially look at the images.

        -The remaining part of this chapter was about bookmaking and self.
Chapter 7: pp. 133-169

We will read and have due the last chapter, Chapter 8, pp. 170-195 due Tuesday, May 9th when we meet in B-12 from 9-10.50 am

Apr 24-28

Sorry about not posting for last week. Advising and meetings took up so much time. And, after talking to a few of you and advising, it seemed everyone could use a week off from posting. For those of you who need to catch up, just go through and answer the questions for the weeks you missed on those weeks. I will look back for anyone who needs to catch-up.

Let's continue reading the Yeh book. If you can't read all of the words, at least look at titles and the pictures as her artwork and collaborative work is stunningly beautiful.

Also, ask your teacher if she would like $50 of art supplies, locally or from DickBlick as a very small way of thanking them for working with us. Then, let me know what she wants and we will get it to her.

You will be at your school for the next two weeks. Your last day for outreach will be Friday May 5th. We will have class on Tuesday May 9th from 9-10.25 in B 12. And, we will meet during our final as well. For the final, you will be giving a 5-10 minute overview on what you have learned and experienced this semester--highlights or lowlights. We will talk about that in class on May 9th in B-12.

For this week, we are looking at pages 52-62, and 62-89 and 90-122. It's practically all pictures and photos of art. The books are in B-12. Am looking forward to meeting again as a class and talking about your experiences.

I asked you to watch the documentary, Where To Invade Next by Michael Moore. I often tell VS students that I am preparing you to be a teacher leader. Part of that leadership is knowing what's going on in other cities, states and countries in terms of education, learning, opportunities, the arts, etc. In this documentary Moore travels to Europe and Africa and asks people their opinions and experiences about things like jobs, schools, lunches, homework, learning, prisons, drugs, etc. What's amazing in this video are the people's responses from many different countries in terms of how they do things. What's surprising throughout the documentary is where these nations and people originally say they got the ideas of doing schools, jobs, learning, etc. from us...the US.

I have three copies of the documentary in B-12 where the books are. It's also on Hulu. So, watch it in B-12 or check it out overnight and watch it at home. What I want you to do is to mostly listen what Europeans are saying about life, learning and living.

I have listed just a fe questions to respond to this week.

For next week, please read the Yeh book, pages 52-89: Chapter 4, pp. 52-61 and Chapter 5, pp. 62-89. The books are in B-12.

Brittany asked two weeks ago if we will blog each week. The answer is yes, as you will be doing two things--giving us an update on your week and at times responding to a reading or video as well. I will always post the questions to be answered.

This week, let's just give updates on what happened this week. Please remember, if you are sick or leave early or miss a day, you must make it up.

There is no reading for this week as we return from Spring Break.

For next week, I want you to read Chapters 2 & 3 (pages 24-51) of the Lily Yeh book--that's for next week.

Feb 27-Mar 10

I emailed you last week telling you we will start reading the Lily Yeh, Awakening Creativity: Dandelion School Blossoms. There are three copies in B-12 that you can use. You can docscan the pages or read it there, but do not take them out of B-12. This is an interesting book. We will slowly go through it throughout the semester. Please make sure that you take time to read it because it will make sense as you progress through your practicum experience this semester. I docscanned the pages below and shared them with you with an invite from DropBox. You will have this and next week to answer my posted question from the readings below:
